SKS to ARMOR History

The original AN-OX® VCI Paper Technology was developed in Canada over 40 years ago for the automotive parts packaging industry. In 1979, John Holden purchased this proven AN-OX® VCI technology and started SKS Industries (now called ARMOR Protective Packaging®) in South East Michigan.

Since the early 80’s, SKS Industries continued to update the AN-OX® VCI formulas to stay on the cutting edge of corrosion inhibiting technology. Over the years, the line was expanded to include several VCI paper formulations, VCI poly films, VCI chipboard, VCI foams, VCI corrugated, VCI netting, and VCI emitters,
in addition to many other innovative corrosion inhibiting products.

In 1983, SKS Industries was granted prestigious approval on the Military Qualified Products List for MIL-PRF-3420. This approval, combined with the trust and reliance of most of the largest industrial corporations in the world, propelled SKS into the forefront of VCI packaging. In the Fall of 2004, SKS Industries changed the name of the company to ARMOR Protective Packaging®. Not to break ties with our past, a past that includes more than 25 years in the corrosion preventative business, but to reflect our future, a future as a company who is growing and evolving and working to meet the unique needs of a changing industrial market. Known worldwide for superior customer service and high quality AN-OX® VCI corrosion inhibitors, ARMOR Protective Packaging® is standing guard to serve and preserve. Much like a suit of armor is designed to protect the life of the knight inside, ARMOR Protective Packaging® is designed to protect the “shelf life” of your metal parts from the threat of corrosion.

That AN-OX® stands for anti-oxidation and that one of our early marketing
campaigns used an ox as part of our marketing strategy to build up our brand name. In the late 1980s, the ox was retired to the SKS history books as new marketing campaigns emerged such as Wrap Out Rust™ and Bringing You Value and Dependability. You can view an example of our marketing material from the 1980s below.
