Where Do You Live: Ortonville, Michigan
Family Details: “I married my wife Beth in 2005, after a brief 12 year courtship! We have two sons, Gavin (10), and Owen (7). We also have a very goofy but loveable dog, Sarge (1).”
Experience: Kevin’s past work history includes eight years as a field service engineer for two different ‘hot runner’ manufacturers in the plastics injection molding industry. He stepped away from that to start and run his own lawn service company for another eight years. “I also got to enjoy being a stay-at-home dad for a couple years until my wife realized what a ‘sweet gig’ that was and sent me back to work so she could stay home.”
Hobbies: Kevin loves adventure and new experiences – he enjoys traveling and exploring off the beaten path, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, hammock camping, working on cars, and dining out while he continues to work on “teaching his wife to cook.” He also serves as the Committee Chair for his local Cub Scout Pack of which both of his sons are members.
Favorite Food: “I love freshly prepared food that did not come from a box, can, or freezer. And butter.”
Latest Accomplishment: “I recently took my family to Chicago for vacation. Among the accomplishments on that trip were, I rode an Amtrak train for the first time, I learned to use Chicago Public Transportation, I ate real Chicago deep dish pizza, and I stood on The Ledge as part of the Chicago Skydeck experience at Willis Tower.”
Favorite Holiday or Holiday Tradition: “My favorite holiday is Independence Day. We used to own a cabin in Harrison, Michigan and every 4th of July the local fairgrounds hosted a demolition derby followed by a fantastic fireworks display launched from the fairground field. After the derby you could move down to the field and lay in the grass and watch the fireworks exploding directly overhead. Watching a fireworks show that close up is truly an amazing experience. It’s akin to hearing live music for the first time.”
What is on your favorite playlist? “I listen mostly to podcasts; “The Doug Stanhope Podcast,” “The Joe Rogan Experience,” and “Planet Money” are among my favorites. I’m also a big fan of stand-up comedy.”
