Rick Miles

Name:

Rick Miles

Profession/Job Title:
“Tape Doctor,’ at least that is what my website, email and what I list on my business card as my title. It is something I have promoted – wearing a lab coat at sales meetings, open houses, etc.. People remember it and it makes an impression.”

Name of Company:
Miles Packaging Source. “I work out of my home office. I have two employees – Baily a 12-year-old Cocker Spaniel and Lucy, an 18-month-old Cockapoo.”

How Long Have You Been a Partner or Worked with ARMOR:
Rick began working with ARMOR five years ago -- around August of 2011.

Where Do You Live:
Rick lives in Bothell, Washington, about 15 miles North of Seattle. “I have lived here for 30 years -- traffic is getting pretty bad and it rains or is cloudy a good part of the time, but otherwise a very good place to live.”

Family Details:
Two daughters, Sarah and Chelsey. Sarah is a junior at Central Washington University where she is studying to be an English teacher and Chelsey is a 2012 graduate of Eastern Washington University with an undergraduate degree in Drama. Chelsea currently works as a customer service manager at a local high-tech company and recently got married.

“My wife Pam and I got married three years ago, it was a second marriage for use both.” Pam is a health care administrator for a community-based health care provider with three sons named Collin, Sam, and Alex.

Experience (Past Jobs and/or Current Tenure with ARMOR):
“I started in packaging in 1979 in the Bay Area, then moved to Seattle in 1986 and worked for the Bemis Company. After nine years, I went to Thacker Container – which was sold two years later and I went to STA Packaging Tapes. After they ‘canned’ all the sales people in 2009 (exactly seven years ago), I went to Adheva and after two years, started Miles Packaging Source in April of 2011.”

Rick currently represents six manufacturers of packaging products, with tape serving as a major focus. “I am very much still learning the VCI end of things – it’s more technical than the other products I deal with, but with the great people and resources at ARMOR, I am well supported.”

Hobbies:
“I love playing blues harmonica – we have a music room set up with drums, bass, amps, mics, etc. I have a garage band group that comes over every couple of weeks to jam, I have been playing with some of these guys for 10 years. We have played at a restaurant or two and at a blues festival.”

Rick also likes to snow ski (both downhill and cross country) and he and his wife like to camp, enjoy listening to music and going to concerts.

Favorite Food:
Smoked salmon in almost any form and Rick says he has never met a potato he didn't like.

If You Were Stuck on an Island What Three Things Would You Bring?
“A kayak, a drum of SPF-50, and our tent trailer.”

Latest Accomplishment:
“I have had my company for five years and it is doing well. Wish I had done this years ago.”

Favorite Movie of All Time:
“The Wizard of Oz” – “I think it is the best. As a kid, it was always a huge deal when it was on TV.”

Favorite Holiday and Favorite Holiday Tradition:
“I love Halloween. I like to do something on the front of the house to entertain kids and I usually blast music and hook up my harmonica amp with a microphone. Very fun stuff.”
