Problem:
Inbound shipments of ferrous metal castings and machined steel metal parts were covered with oil to prevent rust. The use of an oil rust preventative resulted in extremely high waste-water costs, high labor costs and increased process time for the removal of the oil. In addition, metal parts were stored outside (due to limited warehouse space) without protection, which resulted in immediate rust on parts.

ARMOR Solution:
ARMOR recommended the use of several of its VCI products in replacement of the company’s current messy and costly use of oils. ARMOR Defender™ bags, made of a three-layer film with VCI positioned on the inside of the bag, were used in replacement of oils for product shipments. In addition, ARMOR Crusader™, a VCI film with additional barrier protection and increase durability/puncture resistance, was implemented for use in the company’s outdoor storage applications. Metal Rescue™ Rust Remover Bath was also used to remove rust from metal parts.

As shown in above photo - ARMOR products eliminate the need for messy RP oils.

Results/Savings:
In just one plant manufacturing one product, the company experienced more than $65,000 a year in waste-water treatment and disposal savings. There were also savings in employee time and labor.
