ARMOR “SPRINGS” INTO ACTION AND SAVES A HEAVY EQUIPMENT SUPPLIER TIME, MONEY AND THEIR REPUTATION
Before ARMOR products were introduced, parts were poorly packaged and shipped – boxes were not air tight and skids were made of highly acidic wood.
In an analysis of the packaging materials, ARMOR identified that the size, quantity, and placement of the desiccant packs was insufficient and actually contributed to increased corrosion formation.
ARMOR recommended packaging solutions that included changes to the packaging materials and to their application.
Customer:
Heavy Equipment Supplier
Type of Industry:
Farm, Agriculture
Problem:
A heavy equipment supplier shipping parts from Canada to China experienced difficulty with parts arriving at the end destination with rust. The metal parts (springs) were soaked in oil and packed in a corrugated box with desiccant bags (see photos). The supplier’s packaging and shipping process left the metal parts inadequately protected from moisture. The acidic material used to make the cardboard box was actually transferring acidic residues onto the metal parts; the amount of desiccant being used was deficient; and the rust preventative oil did not offer the required corrosion inhibiting protection needed. Results included wasted time and labor costs, shipment rejections and poor customer relations.
ARMOR Solution:
ARMOR designed a protective packaging application that allowed the customer to pack the metal springs in bulk which saved operational time, eliminated the need for individual bags and provided rust protection for two years. ARMOR recommended the use of several products used collectively – an ARMOR POLY® bag, sheets of ARMOR WRAP® VCI paper, and desiccant bags from the ARMOR SHIELD® line of products.
Results:
ARMOR provided the supplier with samples of each product and asked that they conduct a trial shipment of their metal springs using only the ARMOR products. Specific instructions for the proper handling and packaging of the parts were outlined. Within two months of ARMOR’s initial analysis of the problem, the supplier’s Plant Manager said “Well, the results are in and your products performed as billed, our springs arrived in China looking just as they left Canada. Thank you!”
