ARMOR VCI is the “San Francisco Treat!” ARMOR products provided rust protection for a large bridge cable for the Golden Gate Bridge, saving time and thousands of dollars.

cable

Customer:
Golden Gate Bridge Cable Supplier

Type of Industry:
Construction

Problem:
In 2010, a large steel cable was needed for repair and maintenance of the Golden Gate Bridge. This cable was to be shipped from Chongqing, China, to San Francisco, USA, via ocean vessel. Previous trips to other parts of the world of similar supplies had resulted in rust on the cables and the rust preventative methods used were messy, potentially hazardous and ineffective.

ARMOR Solution:
ARMOR’s Chinese partner and local Chongqing distributor offered heavy duty ARMOR POLY® film and ARMOR WRAP® paper as a solution. The cable was placed on ARMOR POLY® film and wrapped completely and sealed. Further ARMOR WRAP® paper was placed on the inside of the coil to provide additional VCI nanotechnology vapors to the package due to the harsh shipping environment. To complicate the situation, when the cable arrived to San Francisco, there was a delay in the installment of the cable of just over one year. Therefore, this cable, protected in ARMOR VCI Nanotechnology, remained in storage during this timeframe. Upon opening the cable for installation, approximately one year and four months from shipment date, the cable was still rust-free, clean and ready for use.

Results/Savings:
Thousands of dollars in savings from prior shipments of similar cables.
