Question: How do you determine what size VCI bag is needed for a container?

Armor Protective Packaging® uses a special mathematical formula for calculating the size VCI bag needed to serve as a box liner or pallet cover. When determining the proper bag size, special consideration is given to allow for a large enough surplus for the bag to fit inside the box or over the pallet while still allowing ample overage for tie-off and proper sealing.

Key Points to Be Addressed when Determining the Size of a Bag:

• Bag must completely cover parts
• It is crucial that bag must be large enough to provide ample excess to allow for proper tie off and sealing. Insufficient overage can result in faulty seals which can allow air and moisture to enter the bag while at the same time allowing VCI to escape.
• Bag sizing and proper seals are especially important in export where temperature fluctuations and transport handling can be extreme.

Inner Box Liner Calculations

1. For the bag length, add 1" to the box length.
2. For the bag gusset, add 1” to the box width.
3. For the bag depth add ½ length plus ½ width plus height plus 4" for a tie off.

Box Size 74” (L) x 42” (W) x 42” (H)

EXAMPLE
Length 74" + 1" = 75"
Width 42" + 1” = 43"
Height 37” + 21” + 42” + 4" = 104"
Bag Size Required = 75" x 43" x 104"

Pallet Cover Calculations

1. For the bag width, add 2" to the pallet length.
2. For the gusset dimension add 2" to the pallet width.
3. For the bag depth, add one half of the pallet width plus the pallet height plus 5".

EXAMPLE
Width 74" + 2" = 76"
Gusset 42" + 2" = 44"
Length 21" + 47" + 5" = 73"
Bag Size Required = 76" x 44" x 73"
