METAL RESCUE™ SAVES THE DAY AFTER AN ACID CLOUD CREATES CORROSION ISSUES FOR AN AEROSPACE AND DEFENSE INDUSTRY SUPPLIER

Problem:
This company manufactures parts and components used in the production of aerospace flight controls. The plant is part of a full industrial campus where earlier this fall, the waste treatment facility accidentally released an acid cloud into the plant. The cloud, while non-threatening to employees, over time resulted in general corrosion of component part surfaces, rendering many of the parts unusable.

ARMOR Solution:
As a customer of ARMOR, the company was fully aware of ARMOR’s corrosion and rust prevention product line. During an onsite visit several years before the acid cloud release incident, ARMOR’s sales representative left literature and a sample of its Metal Rescue™ Rust Remover Bath. When the corrosion issue surfaced, they tried the Metal Rescue™ and found that it was ideal for removing the rust that formed as a result of the acid mist.

This company called ARMOR and their order for Metal Rescue™ was expedited and in their hands within 48 hours. Metal Rescue™ Rust Remover Bath was used to neutralize acid residue and to remove generalized surface corrosion. No corrosion pitting had occurred due to prompt remedial actions. Even though Metal Rescue™ is not embrittling, because of the exposure to acid fumes, all affected parts were hydrogen embrittlement relief baked immediately after remediation with Metal Rescue™.

Resolution:
Metal Rescue™ was used very effectively to “rescue” several orders of very high value long-lead time parts that had suffered unintentional exposure.

Estimated Savings:
Parts that could not be replaced in time to meet customer schedules in critical applications were remediated and could safely be used where they would have otherwise have been scrapped and replaced.
