Straight from ARMOR’s arsenal of rust prevention materials, we present this Top 5 list of key contributors to rust and corrosion:

  1. Leaving metal parts uncovered while sitting in the plant. Uncovered parts waiting for additional machining, drilling, tapping, or to be packaged, etc. are susceptible to rust and corrosion.

  2. Employees handling metal parts with bare hands can contribute to corrosion because the acids, oils, and contaminants found on human hands can cause and accelerate corrosion.

  3. Direct contact of metal parts with corrugated, wood or paper can cause corrosion because these products contain moisture, acids and chlorides.

  4. Metal parts stored close to manufacturing areas, specifically heat-treating processes, can become contaminated and result in corrosion.

  5. Stacking or packing metal parts into boxes after being taken directly out of the cleaning solution without thoroughly drying them will often result in rust.
