METAL RESCUE™ LEAVES THIS KNIGHT SHINING

Once the mascot for Canfield’s Sporting Goods in Omaha, Nebraska, this suit of armor stood guard at the store’s entryway to greet customers. In 1994, the store moved locations and the suit of armor was placed in storage for more than 20 years collecting dust and rust. Discovered by new store owners, the job of bringing this rusty knight back to working order and looking shined up and ready for business became the task at hand.

Mark Orn took on the work. Mark was in search of a rust remover that he could use in the store that did not have a smell, mess or difficulty in disposal. After spotting Metal Rescue™ and calling our Workshop Hero™ customer service department to discuss the project, Mark forged ahead.

“The set up was simple, I used a 32 gallon plastic trashcan and set it on top of another trashcan, put an aquarium power head in the bottom and rubber hose from it. I poured the Metal Rescue™ in and plugged in the pump.” The set up Mark devised allowed for a continuous shower of Metal Rescue™ to spray onto the suit of armor, a technique used for metal items that are unusually shaped or too large to soak or immerse. While Mark did use a fine scouring pad to assist in removing some of the tape residue, he marveled that he did not have to sand or buff and that the Metal Rescue™ worked faster than expected.

“Metal Rescue was mild enough that it did not change the condition of the leather that held the plates on the fingers or other straps that were made of leather. It was a fun project.”
