Ricky Torres

Name: Ricardo Ivan Quiroz-Torres

Job Title: Ricky works as both a Shipping and Receiving Coordinator and Machine Operator.

Where Do You Live: “Howell Michigan has been my home since I was brought here when I was 3 months old from Mexico!”

Family Details: “I come from a family of 4. My dad is a CNC operator and he is responsible for my love of soccer. He is my inspiration and role model when it comes to family dedication and hard work. My mom is my rock – she is calm cool and collected. She is a fantastic chef and makes killer deserts. My brother is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet and I, of course, have taken on a few of the same interests as him like my nerdiness for Harry Potter and Pokémon!”

History with ARMOR: Ricky has been with ARMOR since May of 2018.

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?: “I like that since I’ve started I have been cross-trained to work in a couple of different departments and on various machines.  It makes me feel like I have a better, more well-rounded understanding of the company and it has helped me to figure out what to do when I face a challenge.”

Experience before coming to ARMOR: “Before joining ARMOR I worked in landscaping and as a CNC operator and an assembly worker for several factories – none of them were as cool as ARMOR of course.”

Hobbies: “I am passionate about soccer  — if you have a few days, I can talk nonstop about the sport.”  Ricky also enjoys video games, although he says that he does not play as avidly as he did when he was younger but he does enjoy the occasional gaming session.  “I also enjoy binge watching tv shows on Netflix, so I am all ears for any suggestions.”

Favorite Food: “I love tacos and Chinese food, specifically dumplings!”

If you could trade places, who would you like to be for a day and why? “It would be cool to be Snoop Dogg for a day just to see what a day in the life of a celebrity is like.”

If you were given one year off WITH pay, what would you do?  “I would travel the world and learn from all the cultures to become a more knowledgeable and wiser person but also to have a ton of fun in the process.”  Ricky added that he would also volunteer and help the homeless with the additional free time he would have.

What is the first concert you attended?  “I went to see the Mexican band La Adictiva with my co-worker Osvaldo and we had a blast. We are currently planning our next concert right now!”

What song is most likely to get you to dance? “Cash Out” by Calvin Harris – “this song is too groovy to just stand around while it plays.”

Experience before coming to ARMOR: Before joining ARMOR, Paul worked for 18 years as a lead hand in the brewing and blending department of Lakeport Brewery in Hamilton, Ontario.  Among his list of duties, Paul was responsible for setting up the paperwork and communicating with the brewery’s production team as to what they were producing both for the day and for the week.

If you could trade places, who would you like to be for a day and why? “Because I enjoy sports so much, I would love to own a professional sports team!”

Hobbies: Paul loves all sports, whether he is playing them or just watching.  “I used to jog three times a week until knee surgeries put that to an end to that so now, I walk daily and bike ride.”  Paul also enjoys going to the cottage with family and friends and “having a few cold ones on the beach while swimming.”

Favorite Food: “My favorite foods would have to be pizza or a good burger.”

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy? “I would love to have someone build me a two-story log home by the water.”

What are you currently watching? Paul likes to watch reruns of sitcoms such as the “Big Bang Theory,” “Mom,” “The Office” and “Everybody Loves Raymond,” as well as police and fire-fighting dramas.

What song is most likely to get you to dance? “Off the top of my head I would have to say ‘YMCA’ by the Village People!”

Ozzy seamlessly moves between working in ARMOR’s production area and in its shipping department and he is a huge asset to the entire ARMOR team.

Where Do You Live: “I live in Howell, Michigan, we have lived in our home there for three years now. I am originally from Puebla, Mexico.”

Family Details: “I am married and my wife Dawn and I will celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary in December. We have three daughters:  Carle 26, Gabriela 20, Masiela 15, and 1 granddaughter; Corrine, who turned three years old in June.”

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most? “I enjoy the knowledge I am gaining by working at ARMOR and I also enjoy the trust and freedom that I have to prioritize my work to ensure I complete all duties efficiently. Best of all, I feel appreciated and I appreciate the family atmosphere ARMOR provides.”

Experience before coming to ARMOR: “I came to ARMOR having worked in management and as a regional trainer from the kitchen-side of a restaurant for close to 13 years. I also worked as a warehouse manager that shipped, received and stored plastic pellets.”

If you could trade places, who would you like to be for a day and why? “I would like to trade places with my wife who works as a lending support specialist. A switch with her would give me a better understanding of the financial world and I could benefit from all of the knowledge she has gained over the years. It would probably help me to appreciate her more and understand why she has so many headaches too!”

Hobbies: Ozzy loves to go fishing, listen to loud music, and to work around his yard.

Favorite Food: “I love tacos!”

What are you currently watching on Netflix? “I just finished Ozark, but now that it is summertime I am taking a break from Netflix!”

Meet Adrian Scherer

Name: Adrian Scherer

Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Coordinator

Where do you live: Owosso, Michigan

Family details: Adrian is happily married to Veronica and he has five children:  Logan age 7, Lilly age 6, Liberty age 4, Leo age 2 and Leroy is 3 months old

History with ARMOR: Adrian began working with ARMOR in January 2017 through the temp agency Express Employment and was hired as an “official” ARMOR employee in May 2017.

Experience: “I’ve been known to do many different things for employment.  I have worked on farms, as a baker at Tim Hortons, as a supervisor at food markets, as a quality supervisor at R.E.D. Laser, and I once was a landscaper for Boyd Landscaping where I acquired my CDL.  Here at ARMOR, I prepare and package our products for shipping, I schedule, load and unload trucks, and I assist customers with their shipping-related questions and needs.”

Hobbies: “First and foremost, anything that has to do my family is a primary interest. I also love to hunt, fish, camp, and I even participate in a little airsoft gun combat on the side (it’s like paintball but better).”

Favorite Food:  Adrian is a fan of hot wings and steak tacos but his true love is BACON.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?  “I would bring a hatchet, a cooking pot, and the last item is a bit of a toss-up between a volleyball or some paracord, but I guess if I had to choose I’d probably go with the paracord because it is functional.”

Latest Accomplishment: “It would have to be the birth of my youngest son Leroy, if there’s anything great that I have done in this world it would be my children.”

Favorite Holiday: “My favorite holiday has to be Halloween, but I may be biased because it is also my birthday. As far as traditions go, I really enjoy around Christmas time when we go through our stuff and donate the things that we no longer use or have the space for because what might not be special for us anymore might be special for someone else.”

What is your favorite playlist? “Walk” by Pantera, “All of me” by John Legend, and “Hurt” by Johnny Cash, just to name a few.
