David Yancho

10.20.2010.20.20 ARMOR People, Sentinel Newsletter

Name: David Yancho

Job Title: Vice President/Owner

Where Do You Live: Howell, MI

Family details: “I have three great children:  Jacob 20, Anna 18, and Grace 16, and two dogs – Teddy and Charlie.”

History with ARMOR: Dave joined the ARMOR ranks as a sales rep in 1999 and during his 21-year tenure he has transitioned to different roles including sales manager, vice president of sales and marketing to his current role as both vice president and part owner.

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?: “Building and creating is really where I thrive.  Whether it is building a great, auFUNtic team of people that I really enjoy working with, or building and creating new products, new markets or new brands, when it comes to my job, I am most happy when I am in the midst of it all.  The added bonus of watching our team and company grow in the process is the icing on the cake for me!”

Experience before coming to ARMOR: Dave started his career working for 3M and FedEx as a packaging engineer before trying his hand at sales working for a packaging distributor.  “I realized quickly that I liked sales, marketing and entrepreneurship a lot more than engineering!”

If you could trade places, who would you like to be for a day and why?: “That’s easy, I would choose a musician. I love music and I play the piano.  If I could be John Legend, Elton John, or someone like Daryl Hall, I’d gladly leave my luxurious life of vapor corrosion inhibitors as fast as you can say ‘flash rust’”.

Hobbies: Dave plays the piano, plays whatever sport is in season (football, basketball, hockey, skiing and golf), enjoys hiking and mountain biking, traveling, reading, exercising and picking up vintage items and repurposing them.

Favorite Food: “When it comes to food, I like nearly everything but if I had to pick an absolute favorite it would probably be sushi.”

What is the best thing you did last summer?: “My kids and I went to Mackinac Island and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in northern Michigan.  We hiked, biked and kayaked and it was awesome!”

What are you currently watching? “I took a break from watching anything during the summer, but my all-time favorites include Breaking Bad, Homeland, House of Cards, Billions, Ozark, The Office, Arrested Development and Live from Daryl’s House.”

What song is most likely to get you to dance? “Right now, I would probably have to go with one I discovered a couple of months ago called “Henny & Gingerale” by Mayer Hawthorne.  The song makes me laugh and want to dance (which would in turn make others laugh-Yikes!).”

Favorite Quote: “Pray as though everything depended on God; work as though everything depended on you.” – St. Augustine
